Special Tax Fraud Alert!
According to official IRS sources, numerous taxpayers are receiving fraudulent email notices that indicate an IRS payment has been rejected. These fraudulent emails look official because the sender’s email address ends in @irs.gov. However, the IRS source noted that the IRS never initiates taxpayer communications through email.
If you receive one of these emails, the IRS advises you not to open any attachments and to forward the email as-is to them at phishing@irs.gov. The IRS uses this information to shut down the senders of these spam email messages.
